To get started, let’s dive into the world of escape rooms.
A concept that took off in the last decade, escape rooms are simulated games where teams of players have to solve a series of puzzles, search for clues, and ‘escape’ from a locked room. For those of you who have played them before, you clearly remember it and the experience is incredible. From being confused and disoriented initially, you find yourself completely immersed in a world of rapid problem-solving and teamwork.
This is a great use-case of bringing elements of play to build essential skills.
Stanford’s dschool brought the concept directly to education with the deeper learning puzzle bus. Here, students solve a series of puzzles to learn about concepts in history and math while building collaboration and problem-solving. They have put out a great resource with videos, guides, and research for you to design your own escape room!
What’s even more interesting is that these escape rooms are making a digital come-back right now! Librarian Sydney Krawiec had a great escape room planned which couldn’t open due to the pandemic. Instead of just postponing it, Sydney decided to quickly innovate and created a digital escape room in Google forms! Here are a few links to digital escape rooms that you can play for free this weekend.
If you enjoyed reading about or playing with these, can you build one for your own students, children, or friend circles?
Have a great weekend!

This is amazing!!
This is a completely new domain I had no idea about. I have seen escape rooms advertised and maybe even in an episode of Big Bang Theory but never explored further than that. This stuff seems to be quite engaging! More power to you Prasanth!
